Ingrown hairs, a situation of pain and nuisance. These type of hairs are normally found in people with thick, curly hair and if left untreated can become infected. The big question arises....How Ingrown Hairs can be treated or prevented.
What are ingrown hairs?
According to our Hair Specialist in Hair Clinic in Balaghat, a hair that has a curled back into the skin instead of growing out of the skin's surface is called an ingrown hair. In the world of medical science, an ingrown hair is known as "pseudofolliculitis barbae", hard to pronounce...I know.
The common areas where you can find an ingrown hair on your body are:
- Beard
- Legs
- Underarms
- Chest
- Pubic Area
Signs and symptoms of ingrown hair are:
- Itching Skin or Irritation Surrounding the Hair
- Rashes
- Razor Burn
The place of the ingrown hair will look like a raised bump on the skin that might look similar to a pimple. The bump/pimple will often turn reddish, become irritated and sensitive and may fill with pus.

Home Remedy for Ingrown Hair
According to our Hair Transplant Doctor in Balaghat, ingrown hairs can be easily treated at home:
- Using a warm washcloth or soft toothbrush: Applying a washcloth which is warm to the ingrown hair and rubbing it in a circular motion may help in uncurling the hair.
- Avoiding Irritation: The most important step for treating your ingrown hair is to stop doing things that may irritate it. You need to stop shaving, waxing or plucking the area around the ingrown hair.
- Using Tweezers: If any part of the ingrown hair appears above the skin line, use a sterile needle or tweezers to pull the hair straight. Do this activity only when the hair is above the skin!
Word of caution...don't pluck the hair out, as this increases the chances of ingrown hair growing back. Now no one wants that...do you?
Apply gentle soaps to clean the area around ingrown hairs as it will prevent infection. Use of natural exfoliates around the hair can remove the dead skin cells. Another advantage of using exfoliates is that it helps in clearing the inflamed and irritated skin around the hair.
This is it for today from our side. After reading the entire article with concentration it must be clear in your mind by now that treating ingrown hairs at home are so easy. Thank you for your time and don't forget to check out New Roots Hair Clinic in Balaghat.
